Closet Basics-Do You Have These?
A few weeks ago, I wrote a preliminary post about how to organize your closet. After that, I hit a slump. All of a sudden I felt like I didn’t have anything to share and I just felt empty. In fact, I was sitting and staring at my computer and wondering why I didn’t have words to write when I got an email from my cousin. She asked if I would expand my closet post, and cover some of the closet basics that everyone should have. And then, ping, ping, ping, she sent me three more emails with fantastic blog ideas in them. And then I realized that I have a LOT of information to share with women to help them feel more confidence in themselves and the way they dress. It’s funny to think that even as I was sitting at my computer and lamenting/praying about what to write, God already had a plan in motion. Sometimes I stand in awe of just how many details He works out, most of them without our knowledge. So thank, Kari for letting God use you for inspiration.
You can use this Spring/Summer check-list from Shari Braendel’s book Help Me, Jesus! I Have Nothing to Wear!: P.S. I stole this list from Tabitha Dumas, a fellow Style Coach, who also trained under Shari, just as Nancy and I did. I added a few of my own things, but check out their websites for even more fashion insight. I respect them both greatly!
___ 2 pairs of shorts (not those tiny things where you can see either your pockets or your underwear, but not granny shorts, either)
___ 1 pair of capris or cropped pants (oh my goodness, please make sure they land in one of your “diamonds” in your legs, or you will be severly disappointed that you look frumpy)
___ 2 pairs of lightweight pants in your style preference
___ 4-5 tops in flattering colors and styles
___ 1 lightweight sweater or jacket
___ 2 summer dresses (if dresses are your thing)
___ 1 lightweight skirt (again, watch for the diamonds in your legs)
___ comfy casual flats or sandals
___ trendy sandals in a higher heel, or wedge
___ swimsuit and cover-up
___ summer tote or bag
I would also add (Tabitha’s addition)…
___ denim jacket
___ special occasion dress
And my own personal addition:
___2 pair of great fitting jeans
___3 camis to go under any see-through or really low-cut shirts
Obviously, this list is not the “say all, end all” of closet necessities. But it is a good start to build your wardrobe around depending on your tastes and budget. And I would be remiss not to address undergarments. It is imperative that you have proper fitting undergarments. Nothing in your closet will look amazing on you if you are not dressed right from the inside out. There is so much more that could be said about that statement, but that will have to wait until another day!
